Zwedru Streets Get Facelift as Indian FPU Marks Peacekeepers Day

On 27 May 2014, as part of the Commemoration of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, Indian FPU-2 Contingent Officers under the close supervision of Suresh Singh, OIC, Contingent Commander/COO, organized a cleanliness drive under the theme, “Upkeep of Street - Clean Zwedru Campaign.”

The upkeep/cleaning drive started at 0715 hrs from the Bakery Camp intersection to Zwedru Triangle in Grand Gedeh County.  The drive was marked by the participation of 40 Indian FPU-2 Contingent Officers equipped with rubber gloves, masks, brooms, sticks, shovels, wheelbarrows and other tools to remove litter from the streets. The officers removed litter manually, wearing rubber gloves and masks.

This initiative was also undertaken to raise awareness among local residents about not littering the surroundings and to spread the message of preserving one’s health and the environment through a rubbish-free and clean city. Subsequently, one light vehicle was used to take away the waste collected and the garbage was disposed off at the designated dumping ground.
