SRSG statement following a fourth Ebola case within UNMIL

Monrovia, 24 December 2014

 

Special Representative of the Secretary-General Karin Landgren made the following statement today:

On Tuesday, 23 December, an UNMIL staff member tested positive for the Ebola Virus Disease and was immediately transferred to an Ebola Treatment Unit. Our thoughts are very much with the staff member and their family.

Monrovia, 16 December 2014 - Special Representative of the Secretary-General Karin Landgren made the following statement today: ­

The ruling by the Supreme Court of Liberia on 13 December to dismiss the petitions which sought postponement of the Special Senatorial Elections, and the subsequent decision on 14 December of the National Elections Commission to set a new date for elections on 20 December, have now given the citizens of Liberia clarity on the timing of these elections.  The conduct of peaceful elections at this difficult time in the nation’s life will remind the world about democratic progress in Liberia.

Special Representative of the Secretary-General Karin Landgren made the following statement today:

 

The member of UNMIL military personnel who tested positive for the Ebola Virus Disease on    3 December has been evacuated from the US-run Ebola Treatment Unit in Monrovia to the Netherlands today.

I wish to begin by expressing my deep appreciation for this Council’s efforts to mobilize support to defeat the Ebola epidemic, which has had serious political, security and social effects on all of the countries affected.
