UNPOL Swedish Officer Donates Reading Glasses

In early February, a female Swedish UNPOL officer assigned in Harper, Maryland County, donated more than 100 pieces of reading glasses to the Optical Department of the J. J. Dossen referral hospital in Harper.

Ingalill Maria Hult, also known as “Seta” by Liberians colleagues, told UNMIL Today that while interacting with various communities in Harper she observed a dire need of reading glasses.

Hult’s fellow officers of the Swedish police in Stockholm also contributed to this effort.

“While I was away in my home in Stockholm, I shared what I saw in Maryland with my colleagues and so we decided to help. This is just a way I think we can help address some of the health needs of the people. The glasses are useful for the people of Maryland than to be thrown away in Stockholm.”

“We’re grateful for this gesture. The glasses will be given to the people free of charge when they are prescribed by the eye technicians,” Ophthalmic Nurse Vivian Wah of the J. J. Dossen said. She hoped that those with impediments with their eyes will hear about the donation and visit the eye care center at the hospital.

This is the second time Hult is making a donation of reading glasses. Last year in October she donated more than 90 pair of glasses to the Optical Department of the JJ Dossen referral hospital in Harper through the hospital Administrator and the County health officer.
