SRSG Farid Zarif meets with county officials of Rivercess County

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Liberia, Farid Zarif, has advised county officials, law enforcement agencies and the community to work together in tackling security issues when the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) hands over full security responsibilities to the Government of Liberia by 30 June.

“It’s time to hold hands together and move forwards with a common purpose to maintain peace. When you unite and focus your energy and resources on peace and security, Liberia will be strong in the absence of UNMIL. The police need to be available and to establish good communication with the local people. Also, people need justice; it is the quality of justice that matters. You have to deliver services to the people,” said SRSG Zarif on 31 May at a meeting with county officials, women and youth groups, civil society organizations and other community members in Cestos City, Rivercess County.

European Ambassador Tiina Intelmann was also present.
