UNMIL Deputy SRSG for Rule of Law Waldemar Vrey today joined the Messengers of Peace. Liberia Inc., to launch the UN Security Council resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security in Liberia. Speaking at the ceremony in Monrovia, the DSRSG urged the Liberian youth to take an active role in peace building.

“It is important for formal administration and security agencies to engage civil society, youth, women groups, elders and chiefs, to ensure that peace and security is there for everyone. I call on youth to participate in peace forums to ensure that their voice is heard. Youth have a right to enjoy peace like everyone else,” said Vrey.

Resolution 2250, adopted last December, brings recognition and legitimacy for young people’s efforts in building peace. It acknowledges the urgent need to engage young peacebuilders in promoting peace, and positions youth-led organizations as important partners in the global efforts to counter violent extremism and to promote lasting peace.
