The upper House of the Legislature (The Senate) on August 22, 2017 led a more than two hour debate on the Land Rights Act. The debate followed a review of the bill by the Senate Committee on Lands, Mines, Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources along with the Judiciary Committee and was subsequently placed on the floor for further discussion.
Eventually, it was moved and seconded that the bill returns to committee room for proper scrutiny due to loopholes detected by mainly senators from Grand Cape Mount, Grand Kru and Maryland counties. No exact date was set for the second senate debate.
