In mid-May, UN Police Officers at the Barclayville Team Site trained some 150 men from the local communities across Grand Kru County in Community Policing.The training sessions were organized under UNMIL’s Quick Impact Project programme.
According to the project coordinator, UNPOL Josef Geoffrey Lim, the two-day programme was designed to empower people chosen by their own communities to serve as volunteers in local Community Policing forums.
The training sought to enhance the confidence in them by other community members.
Members of the Community Policing forums will be working in partnership with the LNP to preserve peace in their localities.
To sustain the project, a database would be maintained by the LNP in close coordination with the County Administration.
Mechanisms have also been put in place to monitor and evaluate community policing on a weekly basis, and in different districts. As part of the process, the monitors will consult with community leaders for their views on the work of Community Policing forums.
All activities will be conducted in close coordination with other members of the Security Pillar within the County.
