India and Nepal FPUs collaborated on 15 and 17 May for two days of medical outreach in Paynesville, covering Gwenderia Institute, SIMCOM Educational System, S.D.Cooper Road, and Kpelle Town communities.The activities focused on antenatal care for women and dental check-ups for school children. Indian FPU-I Medical Commander Dr. Jyoti Kumari and her Nepali counterpart, Dr. Ashish Koju with their respective teams of paramedics participated in the awareness camp and free medical outreach that brought together over 115 women and over 300 children.
Kumari started the outreach programme with an awareness lecture on antenatal checkup and care for pregnant women. The doctors later examined the patients and gave advice on nutritional care during pregnancy, complications that can occur during pregnancy and laboratory investigations during pregnancy. The doctors also placed specific emphasis on the need for institutional care and delivery.
On 17 May, the medical team focused on dental care. The medical practitioners concentrated their lectures on dental care and illustrated good, regular teeth brushing techniques. Adoption of healthy food habits and good nutrition for the maintenance of normal, healthy teeth was also discussed through audio-visual media.
The community residents at the end of the outreach applauded the efforts of the medical teams and assured them of similar turnout in subsequent outreach programmes.
