Monrovia - On 20 September, United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and United Nations Development Project (UNDP) supported the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) to launch a three-day training session on early warning and information sharing for its new regional officers at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
Representatives of MIA, Liberia National Police (LNP), the United States -funded project Mitigating Local Disputes in Liberia program (MLDL), UNMIL and civil society groups, including the Liberia Law Enforcement Association, attended the event. At his opening remarks, the National Security Sector Reform Coordinator, Mr. Samuel Dakana, thanked UN for all its support. He noted that the training aims to build the capacity and prepare six police officers (two out of six are female officers) seconded by the LNP to the NSCS to work in the newly established NSCS Regional Offices. Five of them will be assigned to serve in Bomi, Grand Bassa, Bong, Grand Gedeh and Maryland, and one will work with the central NSC office in Monrovia.
The NSC Regional Programme Officers will work closely with the Superintendents to monitor three counties within a specific region.
