Closure of UNMIL

The United Nations Mission in Liberia was established in October 2003 to support for the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and peace process, and to assist with the maintenance and restoration of law and order throughout Liberia. The mission successfully completed its mandate on 30 March 2018.

UNMIL supported Liberian Police and Army on Explosive Remnants of War Awareness Campaign

Monrovia - On 30 March 2017, UNMIL supported the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) on raising public awareness and joint initiatives on Security and Defense at the AFL Headquarters.

The AFL and LNP representatives established to cooperate on critical areas of the Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) response, including the development of the awareness raising campaign in Liberian schools and media outlets.

UNMIL was invited by AFL to continue its support to conduct workshops to raise awareness of soldiers and police personnel on the process of submitting AFL soldiers accused or suspected of certain crimes to the civil justice system.
