The mission successfully completed its mandate on 30 March 2018.

UN Police Supports BIN Recruitment

The Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization of Liberia (BIN) has begun a recruitment drive to induct 250 new officers into the service with the assistance of UNPOL Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization Advisory Team (BINAT).

On 23February the BIN recruitment and vetting committee administered an aptitude test, which comprised of English, General Knowledge and Mathematics, in all the counties. More than 2,350 candidates sat for the test, which was modeled on the one used by the Liberia National Police in its recruitment drive carried out in 2007. UNPOL BINAT monitored the exercise to ensure compliance with guidelines set by the recruitment and vetting committee.

The presence of UNPOL BINAT was reassuring to some candidates who had expressed pessimism about the transparency of the exercise. With the standard set by UNPOL BINAT the Liberian BIN will be in a position to conduct its interviews without major problems once the results of the aptitude tests are in.
