UNPOL Public Information Team facilitated a week-long Press and Public Relations course at IMTC which was attended by 13 officers from the Liberia National Police (LNP) and 3 officers from the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN). Funded by UNMIL Public Information Office, the course was coordinated by Mona Nordberg, Community Policing and Public Information expert form Special Police Capacity.

This is the first course of its kind since 2007 when a similar course was conducted at the National Police Training Academy with a view to improving the image of the law enforcement agency among the population.

The training was aimed at strengthening the LNP’s Press and Public Affairs section as well as Community Policing Officers and middle level commanders and officers from the BIN in their communication with media based on the LNP/BIN Media Policy and to prepare them on how to address the public through media thus promoting public confidence by providing a reliable, trustworthy and credible information at all times.

The training also focused on the relationships among police, court, corrections and the community at large. This is the first in a series of similar courses expected to be conducted in regions outside Monrovia targeting regional commanders, county commanders and depots commanders.
