Closure of UNMIL

The United Nations Mission in Liberia was established in October 2003 to support for the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and peace process, and to assist with the maintenance and restoration of law and order throughout Liberia. The mission successfully completed its mandate on 30 March 2018.

Statement by UNMIL Officer-in-Charge on the fatal road accident in Maryland County

Monrovia, 30 December 2015
UNMIL Officer-in-Charge Waldemar Vrey made the following statement today:
At about 1:30 pm yesterday [29 December] a jeep with nine Liberian passengers collided with an UNMIL pickup truck with military personnel at Wutuken, on the road between Harper and Fishtown.
The accident resulted in four fatalities among the Liberian passengers. Injured Liberians have been transferred to the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County and JJ Dossen Hospital in Harper, Maryland County. The injured UNMIL soldiers have been transferred to the UNMIL medical facility in Monrovia.
