Closure of UNMIL

The United Nations Mission in Liberia was established in October 2003 to support for the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and peace process, and to assist with the maintenance and restoration of law and order throughout Liberia. The mission successfully completed its mandate on 30 March 2018.

<p style="text-align: justify;">30 December 2017, Monrovia – Prior to his departure, former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Advisory Board gave an interview for UNMIL radio.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">President Obasanjo was visiting Liberia during the presidential runoff elections. The Secretary-General appreciated “ the efforts of former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, a member of his High-level Advisory Board, and welcomes the steadfast good offices of his Special Representatives Farid Zarif of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and Mohammed Ibn Chambas of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).&nbsp;“&nbsp;</p>
