Count down to talent show finals

 A Star is Born, the nationally popular talent show is reaching its climax as 17 contestants prepare to slug it out in the quarter finals scheduled for Friday 23 November, at the Providence Island in Monrovia
 

The contestants have put through their paces in rehearsals and workshops aimed at building their vocal and performance skills. Housed in a music academy set up by the United Nations Mission in Liberia in partnership with the Government of Liberia and UNICEF, the 17 youngsters have also had a chance to explore issues relating to peace and reconciliation in Liberia, HIV/AIDs, child rape and sexual exploitation of children.
The contestants will represent 9 of the 15 counties of Liberia including Montserrado, Bong, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Grand Kru, Barpolu, Grand Bassa, Bomi and Margibi. Out of the quarter finals, 12 successful contests will proceed to the semifinals  on 28 November.

From the semifinals will emerge six finalists for the grand finale on the 1 December. The lucky winner takes home  a cash prize of  US $3500  and a recording deal.
The theme for this year’s contest is “Promoting Peace through Music” and winners of previous shows including Nicholas Buigar, Vivian Akoto, Pricess Gbor and Moses Swaray have achieved a measure of national and international showbiz success. They has also played a positive role in promoting peace and raising awareness about  HIV/AIDS, rape, sexual exploitation and abuse.
