Liberian security institutions benefit from UNMIL experts on building preventive capacities on SGBV

Monrovia - On 22 March 2017, Mr. Anees Ahmed, UNMIL Chief of Legal Affairs Section, delivered training on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) for the gender advisors of the Liberian Security Sector Institutions.

Around 75 participants from different ministries, security institutions, private security companies, civil society groups, and regional and international organizations attended the course. The training was part of the five day course on Gender and Security Sector Reform (SSR) organized by the Ministries of Justice, Defense, and Gender with the support of UNMIL and UN Women support.

The training aimed to build the capacity of the gender advisors to prevent and respond to SGBV and to establish and operate mechanism of complain and oversight.

Ms. Germana Dalberto, UNMIL’s representative for the Rule of Law and Security Sector Institution Support Service, provided the concepts and guidance for the Security Sector Institutions to mainstream gender into their operations and to ensure efficient security delivery and equal participation for men and women in the security sector.
