LACC Requests Audit of Employees’ Remittances, Source: Daily OBSERVER

The Board of Commissioners (BOC) of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has requested the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct an immediate audit of LACC’s expenditure of its employees’ remittances disbursed to the commission by the Finance Ministry, a press release said. The BOC said it made the decision in light of media reports alleging that employees’ remittances were misappropriated or misapplied. It is clear that these allegations have claimed the public’s interest and generated a lot of reactions, casting doubt upon the integrity and credibility of the anti-graft commission, the Board stated. The audit will investigate what occurred and if actions taken by the LACC regarding the employees’ remittances were in adherence to established policies and procedures, the release signed by LACC executive chairperson James Verdier said. USAID denotes 100 tablets to LRA, Source: The New Dawn

The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has received 100 pieces of tablets and 174 GPS gadgets from USAID through its Revenue Generation for Governance and Growth (RG3) project. According to a press release, the donation is part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of the LRA Real Estate Community Partnership Project in uniquely mapping and identifying real estate properties as part of its revenue collection program. Speaking at the turning over ceremony Tuesday at the LRA headquarters in Paynesville outside Monrovia, USAID economic governance specialist Roosevelt Tule explains that the electronic devices are intended to help enhance the work of the LRA in archiving its domestic resources mobilization. LRA commissioner-general Elfrieda Stewart Tamba said the donation will contribute greatly to the promotion of LRA’s Real Estate Community Partnership Project.  Read more

FDA Reacts to Staff Disenchantment over Salary Disparity, Source: Daily OBSERVER

The officer-in-charge at the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Debby Moulton, has reacted to the disenchantment of some employees of the entity about its salary structures and their treatment at work. Ms. Moulton told a news confab recently at the FDA headquarters in Paynesville that employees who are complaining that their salaries are below the current official benchmark of USD225 for people at the lowest ebb of service should be fair enough and say the truth instead of raising an unnecessary alarm at this time of the ongoing transition. Her reaction came following expressed disenchantment by some FDA workers who requested anonymity on grounds that they could lose their jobs for speaking out on the ongoing alleged bad labor practice.
