Presidential candidate Dr. J. Mills Jones of the Movement for Economic Empowerment at the final presidential debate Tuesday vowed to put corruption in a coffin and shine light on it if elected. Dr. Jones said his administration will put the stick in the heart of corruption or “vampire.” Fellow presidential contenders – Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress and Liberia Restoration Party’s MacDella Cooper who participated in the debate said they will use the legal system to fight corruption. Cooper went further step to say that if elected President of Liberia, she would not reappoint corrupt officials from one post to another in her government.

FrontPage Africa reports that a former rebel fighter of ULIMO-K, Jabbateh has been charged by a U.S. Attorney in Pennsylvania with two counts of fraud in immigration documents and two counts of perjury. During the trial, victims and witnesses of war crimes in Liberia will testify against the accused. “This defendant allegedly committed unspeakable crimes in his home country, brutalizing numerous innocent victims. He then sought to escape to the United States where he lied about his criminal background on federal immigration forms. This office will use whatever tools are available to bring to justice serious criminals who abuse our immigration process by concealing their background and history,” the attorney said.

PUL denies signing new contract for headquarters, Source: FrontPage Africa

The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has denied finalizing another contract for its headquarters project. At a press conference on Thursday, PUL president, Charles Coffey said the union did not enter into a new contract outside of the government Public Procurement Concession Commission guidelines. There is still uncertainty over the status of the previous contract signed in 2008 when President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf donated USD100,000  to support the undertaken reports say.

After police issued an arrest order for Mohammed Sambolah, a former Finance Ministry employee who released a sex video of him and his fiancé on the social media months ago has been arrested and sent to prison by the Monrovia City Court after he was charged with disseminating obscene material.

Liberia’s Presidential Debate Organizers Sue Freeman for Libel, Sources: FrontPage Africa, The ANALYST, and The INQUIRER

The Deepening Democracy Coalition (DDC), the organizer of the presidential debate has sued presidential candidate Simeon Freeman of the Movement for Progressive Change for USD1 million damages. It came about after Mr. Freeman accused the DDC of attempting to rob him of USD10,000 he claimed the group requested so that he would be included among the candidates for the debate the DDC had organized.

Margibi County Representative, Ballah Zayzay, speaking Wednesday in the Barclay farm area, urged the locals to vote the Unity Party presidential candidate, Vice President Joseph Boakai and his running mate, J. Emmanuel Nuquay if they want to see continued development.

A representative candidate of Montserrado County Electoral District #11, Samuel Wreh says the district has been represented by what he calls bad leadership and that it was time they make a good decision at the October elections to change things around. Mr. Wreh was speaking when he addressed a group of supporters in the Gardnerville area at the weekend.

Senator Jewel Howard Taylor, vice presidential candidate of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) who is quoted in a media report as saying if the CDC wins the presidential elections in October, it would re-introduce the agenda of the former ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP) of ex-president Charles Taylor. Senator Taylor stated that her comment did not mean any harm to the people of Liberia and on top of that it was insinuated by her political opponents. The CDC vice presidential candidate, however, did not say what the agenda is.

ANC’ Takun–J prepares lawsuit for DEA, LNP, Source: New DEMOCRAT

Days after he was picked up from a ghetto he reportedly operates, Montserrado County representative candidate on the ticket of the  Alternative National Congress (ANC), Jonathan Koffa alias Takun-J says he is preparing a lawsuit against the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) which raided the drug den and arrested him. Mr. Koffa said he will file a lawsuit for illegal arrest and character assassination.

Urey vows to re-bury Doe in Grand Gedeh, Source: The New Dawn

Presidential candidate Benoni Urey of the All Liberian Party is promising kinsmen of slain President Samuel Doe that he wants to lay the late president to rest in Grand Gedeh County. “We’re going to reconcile Liberia, we’re going to finally, lay President Doe to rest in Grand Gedeh; his remains will be brought to Grand Gedeh and we’re going to have an official funeral for him”, Mr. Urey told Grand Gedeans in an interview while on a campaign trail to the county recently. President Doe was captured and subsequently butchered in 1990 by the disbanded rebel group Independent National Patriotic of Liberia of Prince Johnson, now Senator of Nimba County.
