President George Weah has called his cabinet ministers to employ based on competence and not along party lines. Speaking Sunday at the Winners Chapel in Monrovia, President Weah said cabinet ministers must employ based on competence and not on party lines since the government aims to bring change. According to an Executive Mansion press release, the president admitted while he is not a perfect human being, he will do his best to be a people-centered president and assured Liberians that he will prioritize the less fortunate in society and the wayward children to become useful citizens. Liberia’s Chief Justice Calls for Speedy Adjudication of Cases Before Supreme Court, Source: FrontPage Africa

Chief Justice Francis Korkpor has called on members of the Supreme Court Bar to ensure the speedy adjudication of cases on the Supreme Court docket as the March Term of Court begins. Addressing members of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) Monday at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Chief Justice Korkpor indicated that there are 246 cases pending trial on the high court docket. Inclusive of that number are 14 cases on the “motion calendar” before the court for speedy justice.

“All counselors, who have cases before this court are advised to put in early requests to have their cases assigned and be in readiness for the arguments,” the chief justice mandated. He said the speedy trial of cases on the docket will help improve the progress of the Justice System of the country. Read more

Ellen’s expulsion ‘wrong’, Source: The New Dawn

Former ruling Unity Party (UP) stalwart Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe says the expulsion of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Senator Conmany Wesseh and his wife Medina, and national secretary-general Patrick Worzi by some party executives is unconstitutional and a gross violation of the party’s rules and guidelines. Representative Snowe told Truth FM that the UP lost the election due to lack of confidence in some people who had played vital roles in the campaign activities of the party. “We lost the election because … some of our party executives did not trust us. There were meetings that some of us denied entry on grounds that we are closed to President Weah and undecided. That made many influential people to take the back seat during the crucial period of the election,” the Bomi lawmaker said. Read more

UPF Hails Legislative Endorsement for IAPP Launch in Liberia, Source: FrontPage Africa

The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) has applauded the leadership and members of the Liberia’s House of Representatives who recently endorsed recommendations aimed at the launch of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace in Liberia as well as a Partnership Assessment Visit to enhance a smooth working relationship among the leaderships of the Liberian Legislature, International Parliamentarians Association for Peace (IAPP) and the UPF. UPF chairman, Dr. Thomas Walsh is quoted in a communication issued in Monrovia over the weekend as expressing delight that the Liberian Legislature has further consented to host a conference in Liberia. EPA Gets USD2.3M …To Safe D. Twe from Erosion, Source: The NEWS

The new executive director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nathaniel Blama has disclosed that USD2.3 million has been secured to prevent the D. Twe Memorial High School from being washed away by the Atlantic Ocean. The government-owned secondary school in the Borough of New Kru Town in Monrovia is being threatened by the Atlantic Ocean, which has washed away the school’s fence. Mr. Blama disclosed that the EPA, in partnership with the UNDP, formulated a coastal defense project to address the erosion affecting the school. Read more

Importers to Soon Clear Goods within 5 Hours, 3 Days Max, Source: Daily OBSERVER

The Daily Observer reports that as part of efforts to ease customs transactions and enhance transparent payment processing, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) will this Friday lunch the Centralized Customs Declaration Processing System. The new system, when switched on, will become assessable to the public to declare and process goods declarations in a paperless environment and reduce clearing periods, an LRA press release said over the weekend. “The aim of the LRA is to enable importers to clear goods from customs ports within at least five hours to a maximum three days,” customs commissioner Saa Saamoi said. Air Côte d’Ivoire ‘Engine Fails’ At Roberts International Airport, Source: FrontPage Africa

An aircraft belonging to Air Côte d’Ivoire has been grounded at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Margibi County since Sunday after the plane encountered some engine malfunctions, FrontPage Africa has gathered. A passenger, who was onboard the plane when the incident occurred, said it started showing signs of faultiness in Abidjan on Sunday when it was bound for the RIA, but still flew to Liberia after a six-hour delay for the repair to be completed.

“We boarded at the usual time and right before takeoff, they said that some button was not working and made us get off the plane and spent 6 hours with no info on what was next.  We then left at around 6:30 and when we landed at ROB they made the passengers board and this time was worse because in the attempt to take off, the pilot slammed on brakes and everyone was terrified,” the passenger who asked not for anonymity told FrontPage Africa. The passenger further said that an attempt by the same flight to take off Monday failed after the pilot experienced some hitches. Read more
