Coffee Break: Thursday, April 06, 2017

Coffee Break is UNMIL Radio’s flagship news and current affairs program that highlights issues of concerns to UNMIL, government of Liberia, Civil Society and Grassroots communities. Issues such as peace and reconciliation, elections, women’s issues, current events, governance, rule of law, electricity and road construction among others are captured in the program which is aired Mondays-Fridays.

Coffee Break today featured live interviews with the following persons and issues:

  • Betsy  Kuoh Toe - Superintendent /Maryland County said the planned demonstration to take place today in two districts (Kaluway and Pleebo) in search of alleged perpetrators of ritualistic killing has been called off
  • Moses Bailey – a journalist with Radio Gbarnga reported that 20 inmates at the Gbarnga Central Prison break jail yesterday (April 5) at 3pm.
  • Una Thompson – Member of the Organizing Committee of the Women of Liberia said the women will on today (April 6) march from Broad Street via Mechlin to Ashmun Street at the home of Mother Mary Brownell who died on March 13th in reflection of her contributions to peace, reconciliation and the respect for women’s rights.
  • Sam Collins – Spokesman / Liberia National Police said the LNP, CBL, MOT have signed a memorandum of understanding for the effective implementation of the third party motor vehicle insurance.
  • Chief Zanzan Kawor – Chairman of the National Traditional Council of Chiefs & Elders has called on government to build a national memorial site for those killed by the Ebola virus.
  • Alvin Jask – Administrator / International Resource Center for the Blind said his center is providing skills in technology for visual impaired person who wish to continue in any field of work they are or were engaged in.
