Refugees Update
Liberia is currently playing host to over 40,000 refugees and asylum seekers. The main populations consist of Ivorian refugees who fled their country primarily as a result of the 2010 post-electoral crisis; and urban refugees of mixed nationalities, among them Sierra Leoneans, Guineans and Sudanese. Some former Sierra Leonean refugees have opted for local integration in Liberia and are in the process of naturalization, while others are awaiting residence permits.
