A Star is Born Sector elimination heats up

After a successful sector elimination event in Turbmanburg last Friday, all is now set for the second event in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh, 20 October.

 

At a jam-packed Turbanburg City Hall, 11 contestants from Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount and Bomi performed for the first time with a live band for three slots to make it to the Boot Camp that will be taking place in Monrovia on November 16.

At the Boot Camp, the 18 qualifiers from the entire country will be accommodated in a single house where, apart from doing voice coaching, microphone techniques, stage movement and other forms of music rehearsals, they will also be engaged in workshops related to peace and reconciliation, HIV/AIDs, child rape and more.

They will also take part at the quarter and semifinals of the competition in order to get a bye to the Grand Finale on December 1. Six persons will make it to this stage.

On Wednesday, a team from UNMIL arrived in Zwedrru on board a special flight with a band and immediately started rehearsals with the three qualifiers from the township itself. Those from Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland and River Gee Counties are being conveyed to Zwedru itself ahead of the event taking place at the Zwedru City Hall on Saturday October 20 starting at 1:00 PM

The last set of elimination events will be on October 27 in Gbarnga and Monrovia respectively. In the former, three contestants each from Lofa, Grand Bassa, Nimba and River Cess will slug it out with their three counterparts from Bong for another set of three tickets to take them to the Boot Camp. This will happen at the Administrative Hall at 1:00 pm and already, a popular band in the town, Denh- L has started organizing rehearsals for the contestants.

With the largest percentage of the country’s population resident in Monrovia, the capital, 13 contestants from this area will compete with the three qualifiers from Margibi at the Golden Beach restaurant, Tubman Boulevard, Sinkor and only nine persons will join the other nine qualfiers from the three other regions to the Boot Camp.

The theme of this years talent contest is promoting peace through music. It gives the United Nations and the Government of Liberia to a chance to raise awareness about some of the critical issues that affect the lives of particularly the young people of Liberia .

Previous winners of this contest include, Moses Swaray, Nicholas Buigar, Vivian Akoto and Princess Gbor .
