Ivorian Refugees: Images Of An Unfolding Crisis From Butuuo, Nimba County

A photographic chronicle of images taken in Butuuo, Nimba County

Over the past five months more than 130,000  Ivorian refugees have sought safety in Liberia. Many have found shelter in the homes of host communities and have had to rely on the host communities for basic necessities. Working in a coordinated manner, UN agencies and the international community also continue to provide basic needs assistance to refugees, most of whom are women and children. The following are a series of photographs of refugees taken in Butuuo in Nimba County on March 16 2011 by UNMIL photographer Staton Winter.
