Nigerian Peacekeepers Reach out to Communities in Need

Nigerian peacekeepers continue reach out to communities in their area of operation with various activities including teaching assistance to selected high schools, medical outreaches, vocational training, and counselling to prison inmates, among other activities.

Currently, the teaching assistance is carried out in Bopolu, Gbarpolu County, where two personnel from NIBATT-30 C Company have been attached to Madrasatu Nurul Islamiyya and the Bopolu Bible Mission Orphanage Home. Similar teaching assistance is also being provided at the Bomi Community College in Tubmanburg by three personnel from NIBATT-30 Headquarters. They teach English, Physical Education, Biology, and religious education. The teaching assistance is expected to complement the efforts of existing teachers and support quality education. NIBATT-30 is also sponsoring three youths from Point Four community in Monrovia for a six month computer course at the Joy Computer College in Point Four, Monrovia. The sponsorship is geared towards contributing to increasing the capacity of youth in modern technology.

Chaplains of NIBATT-30 continue to visit Tubmanburg Central Prison to counsel and pray for the inmates.  The battalion has also made donations such as toiletries and bathroom slippers.

A friendly football match was organised between NIBATT-30 Delta Company and Sinje Youth for Development in the first week of March 2013 to sustain the cordial relationship with the host community. The match attracted a large crowd of and ended in a 1-1 draw. Prizes were awarded to the best player and the best goalkeeper of the match.
