Pakistani Peacekeepers Train Students in Engineering

Recently, 40 engineering students and three Faculty members of the WVS Tubman University in Harper successfully completed training in Principles of Automotive Vehicles and Introduction to Telecommunication Engineering provided by PakBatt-17 engineers.

 
Instructors Maj. Khurram Waqar (Mechanical Engineer) and   Maj. Imran K.Khattak (Telecommunication Engineer) drilled the students in electrical and mechanical streams, including basic engineering principles relating to the design and operation of automobiles.

Practical work was availed the students at the PakBatt-17 transport workshop, while in Telecommunication Engineering, they were acquainted with the basic principles and latest trends in mobile networks and the Internet.

While awarding certificates to the trainees, UNMIL Deputy Force Commander, Brig.-Gen. Sabir Ali praised the PakBatt-17 engineers led by Lt.-Col. Habib Ullah, for helping to build the capacity of Liberians.

“This is just the first phase of the training. The next Pakistani contingent will continue with similar classes and even more,” the DFC assured the students, adding that the Pakistanis will focus on needs expressed by the students.

Brig.-Gen. Ali stressed UNMIL’s commitment to promote peace and stability in Liberia and to support efforts to enable self-sustenance among Liberians. “You have great potential,” he observed. “I have no doubt that given the chance, Liberian youth have tremendous potential to excel in every field.”

On her part, Mayor of Harper City Regina Sampson urged Liberians to utilize the skills optimally for the development of the country. “We are very much grateful to UNMIL and the PAKBAT17 contingent in particular for going beyond peacekeeping to impart knowledge to our children,” she said at the certificate award ceremony.
On behalf of the Maryland County administration, Assistant Development Superintendent for Maryland Nathaniel Toe applauded the WVS Tubman University administration for the remarkable progress in harnessing support from various stakeholders.

WVS Tubman University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr Elizabeth Q Enanoria-Carbajosa, presented certificates of appreciation to Maj. Waqar and Maj. Khattak PakBatt-17 Commanding Officer Lt.-Col. Habib Ullah, and DFC Brig.-Gen. Sabir Ali acknowledging their invaluable contributions to WVS Tubman University.
