05 December 2017, Monrovia – On the International Volunteer day, UNMIL organized an official ceremony at the UN Headquarter in Liberia in honor of all the UN volunteers (UNV) for their hard work and dedication for the mission with the performance of drama, poetry and music.

UNMIL’s Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political and Rule of Law Mr. Waldemar Vrey, praised the all UN volunteers that have served in UNMIL since 2003, which amounts around 1500 UNV’s,  stating that on this international volunteer day “let us recognize the immense value that all of you are making towards the sustainability of our planet”.

The United Nations Volunteer program manager Mrs. Mar Brusola,  delivered the UNV Executive Coordinator’s message on International Volunteer Day. “Let us recognize the relentless efforts of volunteers who answer calls in times of need for the common dignity of all”- said Mrs. Brusola.

The event was attended by the representatives from the Liberian Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports, representatives of National organizations, and the representatives of the United Nations country team.

The International Volunteer Day (IVD) mandated by the UN General Assembly, is held each year on 5 December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.
