UNMIL Hands Over BIN Post in Lofa County

As UNMIL continues its transition process, a key priority remains building the capacity of national security agencies. To this end, on 2 July, UNMIL handed over a newly constructed Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) Post at Kpassigizia, a border town in Salayea District, Lofa County.

Kpassigizia is one of the major crossing points to Guinea.  The joint security personnel assigned at the border have been operating their official immigration and security activities from a makeshift thatched structure. During the rainy season, they were constrained to work from individual houses. Working under such conditions has been very difficult, challenging and proved to be ineffective, according to the officials.

On receiving the keys to the building, the commissioner for Salayea expressed thanks and appreciation to UNMIL for its continued support in providing tangible assistance to improve the security situation in Liberia.

Thanking UNMIL, the BIN Chief of Operations in Lofa County commented that the building will provide a decent and conducive working environment for the joint security team and will enhance their work in order to be more efficient.
