UNMIL hands over renovated facility to Armed Forces of Liberia

Liberia – The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) today handed over the renovated quarters of the Liberian Coast Guard in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County to the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). The renovation was a Quick Impact Project (QIP) of UNMIL in support of Liberia’s security transition plan.

“It is expected that this project will mitigate the impact of UNMIL drawdown, enhance the ability of the Coast Gurads to conduct maritime patrol and increase public confidence in the government of Liberia,” said UNMIL Force Commander Major General Salihu Zaway Uba, while handing over the keys of the four renovated blocks to AFL Chief of Staff, Daniel Dee Ziankahn.

The renovated quarters will accommodate 10 personnel of the Liberian Coast Guard.

Also present at the event was County Superintendent Levi Demmah, Buchanan City Mayor Julia K. Bono and Lt. Cdr. Cephas T. Gboe, Commander of the National Coast Guard.
