With UNMIL Quick Impact Project support ABIC launches women and governance project

Monrovia - The Angie Brooks International Centre (ABIC) with support from UNMIL Quick Impact Project will next week launch a nation-wide project to boost women’s participation in governance. The project will mobilize women to register as voters and encourage them to offer themselves for elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.

“In Liberia today, in spite of the first female president in Africa, women are still being marginalized and allowed to play back seated roles evidenced by the representation of women in the National Legislature,” said Angie Brooks International Centre Executive Director, Cllr. Yvette Chesson Wureh on 24 February at a press conference in Monrovia. “We must begin from the grassroots level to ensure that women are involved in governance and planning processes in every sector of our country.”

The project will kick off on 27 February 2017 in Gbarpolu, Lofa and Grand Kru Counties. There will be forums in all 15 counties of Liberia by the end of March.
