UNMIL supports the establishment of a Gender Office at the Liberia Fire Service

20 February 2018, Monrovia- UNMIL supported the Liberia Fire Service (LFS) to establish a gender office by providing capacity building trainings on gender mainstreaming and supplying office materials and equipment that will enable the gender office to perform its main tasks.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the LFS, the Ministry of Justice, civil society actors and UNMIL Security Sector Reform Unit.

The UNMIL Rule of Law Pillar representative, Ms. Germana Dalberto, encouraged the LFS to continue working towards increasing the representation of women at all levels and operations; ensuring that services provided by the LFS respond to the needs of men, boys, women and girls.

This UNMIL Assessed Funded project aims to ensure gender mainstreaming within security institutions in compliance with Women, Peace and Security frameworks. The project also supports effective collaboration between the Gender and Security Sector National Taskforce and gender coordinators of security institutions on the development of gender equality programs for the security sector.
