31 January 2018, Monrovia - UNMIL Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Political and Rule of Law, Mr. Waldemar Very, supporting the Judiciary institute, handed over books and equipment to establish a Human Rights Library for the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) Secretariat.

DSRSG Vrey underlined the importance of enhancing skills on protection of human rights by judicial officers and legal practitioners. “An effective protection of human rights is consequently also an essential pre-condition for peace and justice internationally and locally, since this is an inbuilt safeguard that offers the population ways of easing social tension at the domestic level before it reaches such proportion as to create a threat on a wider scale” said DSRSG Vrey.

The provision of the necessary resource/office materials and furniture has been needed to facilitate the Institute to achieve its mandate. It also assures the increase access to text, literature and reference materials on Human Rights for research and reference by the judicial officers and legal practitioners.
