    Coffee Break on Friday, January 05, 2018 hosted the following persons:
    Josiah Nimely/ Field Coordinator Africa Humanitarian Action (AHA) . He disclosed that repatriation of Ivorian Refugees at the Little Wlebo Refugee Camp has officially ended. 
    Rally Fallah/ Head of the Mandela –Washington Fellows  Liberia Chapter . The organization stressed the importance of sustained youth engagements in the democratic process.
    John Yormie / Head of the Liberia Research and Development Network. The group is observing its anniversary with an appreciation of the contributions of teachers to education in Liberia.
    Steve Lavala / Executive Director Youth Exploration Solution (YES) . YES  said the group is rolling  out a campaign called “Manage Expectations” in the aftermath of the elections.
    Denzel Saryee / a young and enterprising musician . He is embarking on a campaign to use  his talent to promote a culture of peace.

    Yesterday, the National Elections Commission certificated President-elect George Weah and Vice President-elect-Jewel Howard-Taylor as winners of the 2017 Presidential Election at its headquarters on 9 street, sinkor.
    66 Representatives-elect in the 2017 Representative Election as the remaining 7 are undergoing some legal issues were also certificated.
    Speaking at the Certification program President Elect George Weah assured Liberians that he will uphold the confidence reposed in him
    Mr. Weah emphasized that his only interest is Liberia and the Liberian people and that he will not compromise that.
    QUESTION:
    Now that the 2017 elections are over, how do we reconcile our political difference?

    We received calls from Montoserrado, Maryland and Sineo Counties.
    All of the callers called for a national reconciliation beginning at the community level. They say true reconciliation will start with a government of inclusion, an equal distribution of the nation’s wealth, the respect of human rights and dignity and freedom of speech and the obeying the rule of law

    We received three e calls from Montserrado County. Some of the callers hope to see an end to female circumcision because it is harmful. Others believe that  FGM is good and should  continue.
    Outcomes expected/achieved:
    To discuss, inform and educate Liberians on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV)
    How related to UNMIL, PI and Radio Mandate:
    Sensitizing Liberians on the interventions and measures taken to stop SGBV communities.

  • Around Town (04 January 2018)

    Around Town was today dedicated to managing expectations of Liberians in the ability of the incoming government and to also sample the views of citizens on areas of focus.  
    Callers on the program mainly stressed the need for corruption to be tackled and that more emphasis be placed on agriculture, health, Education and roads.

    Isaac Redd/ Director of Communications House of Representatives. He disclosed that preparations were underway for the commencement of the operations of the 54th legislature
    Rev. Kortu Brown - President / Liberia Council of Churches (LCC). LCC rallied Liberians to commit to peace with a new government expected
    Oscar Bloh / Head of the Elections Coordination Committee (ECC). Bloh spoke of lessons learned from the just ended elections
    Maima Pelham / Executive Director of Serene Health for All Mobile Clinic . Pelham disclosed that her group is  rolling  out mobile health services for rural communities

    30 December 2017, Monrovia – Prior to his departure, former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Advisory Board gave an interview for UNMIL radio.

    President Obasanjo was visiting Liberia during the presidential runoff elections. The Secretary-General appreciated “ the efforts of former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, a member of his High-level Advisory Board, and welcomes the steadfast good offices of his Special Representatives Farid Zarif of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and Mohammed Ibn Chambas of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS). “
