Pak Med Trains Tubman University Students in Basic Life Support

Forty two students from the nursing department of the Tubman University in Maryland Country have received various forms of medical training from the Pakistani peacekeepers. Improving practical skills has been of particular focus of the training.

The training involved the use of visual aids like videos as well as demonstrations on live persons. Participants were also given live practice by the specialists of PakMed Level II Hospital making the exercise more participatory. The students were also taught safe handling of emergency cases with emphasis on precautions to be taken while transporting these victims to the hospital. All the participants were also trained in clearing the obstructed air ways and CPR of victims of cardiac arrest including infants.

Commanding Officer of PakMed Level II Hospital Lt.-Col. Muhammad Ali said the course was designed to train the students in lifesaving skills and attitude towards a victim of cardiac arrest.

The students in consultation with the Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences of the University were organized into two groups and taught Basic Life Support (BLS) that included Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), handling of victims of cardiac arrest, and managing patients in emergency.

“I am particularly grateful to UNMIL peacekeepers for going beyond your peacekeeping duty to teach us these basic life support skills and it is a great opportunity to get training under the supervision of specialized doctors of PakMed,” said Emmanuel Y. Dobboh, one of the beneficiaries and student of Tubman University.

PakMed intends to continue offering this course to future Health Sciences students of Tubman University.
