PakMed Takes Healing Hands to Health Fair

On 30 November 2013, medics from the PakMed Level II Hospital joined other partners and stakeholders including the William V S Tubman University at a Health Fair in Harper to provide locals with free medical care.

Under the theme Solidarity and Collaboration for Improved Healthcare and Sanitation, the Pakistanis also lectured audiences on hygiene and sanitation besides providing free screening for prevalent communicable diseases.

Other front players at the one-day Fair included the National Association of University Women and the Rotary Club of Harper City.

It began with a parade by the WVS Tubman University students.  At the opening ceremony, the President of the University and National Association of University Women, Dr Elizabeth Davis Russell, stressed the significance of healthcare, hygiene and sanitation.

On his part, the Acting Commanding Officer of Pakmed Level II Hospital, Maj. Mahmood Iqbal highlighted the importance of events directed at promoting public awareness. He also spoke about the services of Pakmed Level II Hospital in the County.

The Fair featured different stands for Visual Acuity assessment, Eye screening for Cataract, recording of vital signs, lab testing for Malaria, and Blood Sugar and Blood Group. Even testing and counselling for HIV and Hepatitis was available and in strict confidentiality.

The public response was overwhelming, with about 860 individuals were attended to.

In her closing remarks, the Vice President of William V S Tubman University, Dr Elizbeth Cabajosa, had special words for the doctors of PakMed Level II Hospital.

“The Pakmed Level II Hospital not only caters to the medical needs of UN staff but also the communities living nearby,” said Dr Cabajosa, adding: “We will always be grateful to Pakmed Level II Hospital for its unconditional help to William V S Tubman University and the general public.”
