  • Coffee Break - Tuesday, 18 July2017

    Coffee Break is UNMIL Radio’s flagship news and current affairs program that highlights issues of concerns to UNMIL, government of Liberia, Civil Society and Grassroots communities. Issues such as peace and reconciliation, elections, women’s issues, current events, governance, rule of law, electricity and road construction among others are captured in the program which is aired Mondays-Fridays.
    Coffee Break today featured live interviews with the following persons and issues:

    • Tolbert Nyenswah – Director / National Public Health Institute of Liberia says 55 mineral water companies have been shut down for producing contaminated water;

    Civil Affairs Hour looks at Equitable Land Reforms in Liberia. My guest is Emmanuel Urey, a Liberian and Candidate for PhD in the Environment and Resources Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. He strongly believes in equitable land reforms and over the past 7 years his research has focused on land reforms in Liberia. His master thesis which focused on systems of customary (“traditional”) land administration in a transitional context was useful in formulating the land rights policy and land rights law now before the National Legislature.

    • The UNMIL Quick Impact Project has turned over a Youth and children Center worth more than 28 thousand dollars to the Rivercess County Authority.
    • President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has received Letters of Credence from the Ambassadors of the Kingdoms of Sweden, the Netherlands and Mali.
    • Grand Gedeh County Electoral District #2 Representative Morais Waylee has been arrested by officers of the Liberia National Police for criminal conspiracy.
    • Over fifty women political aspirants have been trained in Buchanan in key election strategies to help improve their chances of being elected in the 2017 general and presidential elections.
    • Meanwhile, UN Women’s Programme Lead for Governance and Women’s Political Participation, Mahmoud Koroma said the under-representation of women in Liberia’s political leadership is discouraging and highlighted the need for more support to women in politics.
    • The Liberia Crusaders for Peace along with the Carter Center and other partners is organizing a national peace festival in Monrovia.
    • The Pillar Lead for Communications at PREVAIL, has called on Liberians to join efforts aimed at finding a preventive vaccine for Ebola.
    • For his part, the President of the Ebola Survivors Network of Liberia Patrick Farley the gathering to encourage participation into the study so that Liberians will not go through the scourge they suffered during the Ebola outbreak.
