  • Coffee Break - Monday, July 17 2017

    Coffee Break is UNMIL Radio’s flagship news and current affairs program that highlights issues of concerns to UNMIL, government of Liberia, Civil Society and Grassroots communities. Issues such as peace and reconciliation, elections, women’s issues, current events, governance, rule of law, electricity and road construction among others are captured in the program which is aired Mondays-Fridays.
    Coffee Break today featured live interviews with the following persons and issues:

    • Charles Coffey – President / Press Union of Liberia speaks about how media practitioners draw up a compact to further support efforts for peaceful elections  
    • Trokon Gray - Vice President /Supreme Motor Cycle Union talks about Increase partnership with police to enhance respect for the rule of law 
    • Harold Aidoo - Head of the Civil Society Coalition on Decentralization talks about what came out of the retreat with the lawmakers on the CRC bill of referendum

    • The Special Representative of UN Secretary-General has reemphasized the need for continued engagements with Liberia in the consolidation of peace and security.
    • Internal Affairs Minister commended ECOWAS and partners for the launch of the project; saying it is part of a line of efforts to ensure peace and security in the country.
    • The West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists, with headquarters in Lagos Nigeria, has formally launched a center for primary level pharmacy students in Liberia.
    • The Coordinator of the Liberian Center of the WAPCP professor Hasipha Tarpeh encouraged the students to exert all efforts in acquiring the knowledge so as to put Liberia forward.

    Coffee Break on Friday, 14 , July featured : James Kpargboi / Communications Specialists / Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) who spoke of  the installing of street lights on the Tubman Boulevard and making new connections in communities
    Dr. Robtel Paily / Liberian academic and a Mo Ibrahim Fellow shared her experience with Liberians.
    Stephen Lavala / Executive Director Youth Exploring Solution disclosed that his organization is beginning a tree planting and trash cleaning project to promote what it called sustainable environmental actions
    Lekpele  Nyamalon / A Liberian poet and author talked about the launching of a book called Scary Dreams , detailing the struggles of Liberians as refugees and the determination to turn a positive corner.
